The change to provoke

As part of our strategy to differentiate BDO's risk consultancy, we aimed to establish them as thought leaders with a progressive approach to understanding risk. To achieve this, we needed to find a new way of talking about risk that went beyond the status quo of reports that neatly categorise and rate individual risks.

The story that provoked it

Our analysis of marketplace dynamics and SME interviews revealed that this siloed view of risk was dangerously outdated. In a highly-interconnected world, risks spread like a virus, proliferating and combining at speed. Tackled individually, risks threaten to overwhelm business leaders.

To prepare our audience for this reality, we introduced a new paradigm that conceptualised the compound and interconnected nature of risk: 'The Risk Multiplier'. Not only did this give an innovative way of talking about risk but it represented clear whitespace from a content strategy perspective.

BDO’s ‘Risk Multiplier’ was a step change for the global risk management industry. Using proprietary research (including a quantitative survey of Risk leaders and CXOs) to identify and interrogate the way risks combine, the report and content campaign helped business leaders prepare for the new emerging global risks landscape, establishing BDO as progressive thought leaders in the sector.

The impact

The Risk Multiplier exceeded benchmarks of downloads and powered a series of high-engagement online and offline events. Even more significantly, it gained coverage in Tier 1 media such as the FT, and directly contributed to new business development. Within twenty-four hours of launch, the report successfully secured a meeting with a target FTSE100 organisation.
