But it can be difficult to establish marketing as a truly strategic business partner when the business doesn’t fully value what marketing is capable of. What can be done to break from this? How can marketing build and grow into a driving force in the business despite the obstacles?

You definitely have to have another level of proving yourself as a marketer, and potentially as a female. I don't think anyone's intentionally that way, but it's still an issue in society at large.
